SHORE VS BORDENTOWN

Junior mid, Grace Santi scored 2 goals to lead Shore to a 3-0 win over Bordentown in the quarterfinals of the NJ North 2 Group 1 State Tournament. Also scoring for Shore was sophomore Katie Mannino as Shore outshot Bordentown 47 to 8.

Junior Carol Middough and senior Kara Casale added assists and senior Keeper Shannon Johnson had three saves to record the shutout as Shore ran their record to 17 and 1.

Shore had trouble finishing in the circle after their 10 day layoff but played hard aggressive hockey to preserve the wind.

Shore awaits Thursdays winner of Pingry-Metuchen and will play either at Pingry or at Home. The game is scheduled for Monday but can be played sooner.

Defensively, sweeper Michaela Curtis played outstanding defense and Katie Mannino and freshman Jessica Welch constantly put pressure on the opponents defense.

Bordentown came to Shore with a truckload of supplies to help support the community in an outstanding gesture of compassion. We thank them and the Council Rock field hockey team who also sent needed goods to our school. Many of the Shore hockey players have been affected deeply by the recent storm and have learned a great lesson about sportsmanship by these 2 schools.

SHORE CONFERENCE FINALS

Shore's run in the tournament ended today with an unprecedented 14th straight title as the young Blue Devils outshot and outscored the scrappy Bulldogs of Rumson 2 to 1

After falling behind 1-0 at the 23 minute mark, Shore maintained their resolve and scored 2 times in the next 4 minutes to take a 2 to 1 halftime lead. Junior mid Carol Middough converted a stroke after the Rumson goalie sat on the ball, to even the score at 1. A minute later, Middough took a beautiful pass from junior mid, Grace Santi to put the Devils up for good.

Shore came out in the second half with a few adjustments and played great defense, holding the Bulldogs to only 4 shots. Shore outshot Rumson 20 to 12 with North Carolina Bound, Shannon Johnson, registering 10 saves. Shore snapped Rumson's 15 game win streak and sent the purple dawgs home with their tail between their legs.

Katie Aitkens and Morgan Jones played aggressive defense and executed our game plan to perfection. Shore showed great character after falling behind, by coming right back aggressively on attack. Katie Mannino and Kara Casale gave the Rumson defense all they could handle setting up the 2scores.

This was Shore's 18th title overall against 3 losses in the title game. They have been to the finals 21 of the 28 year history of the tournament. Shore's last loss was in 1998 to Southern Regional.

Congratulations to the team......a well earned victory...you kept your poise and composure.

Shore vs Ocean

Sophomore forward Katie Mannino scored the first hat trick of her career and it came at a perfect time. With a trip to the semi-finals of the Shore Conference Tournament at stake, the young Devils came out strong pounding the Ocean net. 10 minutes into the game freshman forward, Jess Welch, got the game winner on an assist from Mannino. Just 2 minutes later Katie M scored her first goal and added her second 3 minutes later with Kara Casale getting the assist.

Shore dominated the midfield with Carol Middough and Grace Santi shutting down Oceans attempts to control the middle while pressuring the Ocean backfield with textbook 2 v 1 combinations. The Shore backfield with seniors, Katie Aitkens and Morgan Jones were the backbone of the defense with timely interceptions and counter attacks.

The defense held the Spartans to just 9 shots and senior keeper Shannon Johnson kept Ocean off the board with 3 saves.  The Blue Devils stuck to the game plan and showed mental and physical toughness throughout the game. We are proud of how the young Devils played against a very good Ocean team.

Shore enters the semi-finals for the 14th year in a row and they are playing a very good Freehold Boro team at Holmdel at 5pm on Wednesday . Shore has played Boro the last 2 years in the finals with Shore winning the title both years.  Come out and support as they continue to defend the SCT tittle.
